Bangkok, Day 23 evening

 It's Jan 13th. I got everyone to try the one chip challenge by asking them if they were scared of American spicy. Most were smart enough and scared enough not to try the chip, but my taunting worked on a few of them. Well they said as long as I ate it too, so I joined them. I guess I didn't learn from the first time. A couple of them split a chip and while they all thought it was spicy none was hurt and everyone was fine.

Bangkok, Day 23 Lunch

It's Jan 13th. Friday the 13th ... Oooooo. AEW and I ate at Maguro, a Japanese restaurant at the Mega Banga mall. Everything was Texas big. I ordered way too much food. The tuna and unagi were some of the best tasting I have ever eaten.

Bangkok, Day 22

It's Jan 12th. It has been a quiet day. I ate at "Little Loft - Cafe and Farm". I had a Japanese style roast beef over rice with 2 onsen eggs with an apple flavored iced tea. It was quite yummy. I forgot to take a photo before I started eating. The presentation was beautiful before I started eating it.

Afterwards I stopped at the shipping    yard to feed the dogs and say hi to everyone before starting my shirt at work.

There are geckos everywhere. They are sooo cool.

Bangkok, Day 21

It's Jan 11th. I ordered a kabab in a pita. I used a delivery service here in Thailand called grab. It is similar to Uber and UberEATS I  the US. However, when they called, I couldn't figure out how to answer the call in the application and they cancelled my order. I had to reorder my food and it took an extra hour before I got my food. 

 While I didn't try it, I got some pictures of the rat soup preparation. Hmm, looks yummy.

Bangkok, Day 20

It's Jan 10th. It has been a quiet day watching    Jeopardy! I ordered food delivered again. I got an aussie tenderloin steak with truffle fried rice along with 2 sushi–ish dishes, red ebi maki and spicy seafood sushi lava. 

AEW has a visit to see the sea gulls. I can only assume it is because I keep taking pictures of birds for the bird chat group I'm in. To be honest, other than covids and some birds of prey, I really don't like birds, and I especially do not like sea gulls. It is really cool that she pays enough attention to me that she thinks of things for us to do together. So instead we went to a fried and rotisserie chicken.

Bangkok, Day 19

It's Jan 9th. AEW and I had dinner, my breakfast, at one of the street vendors near the appartment. I had a ribeye, with french fries, steamed vegetables, toast and a fried egg. 

 

I was also asked for a picture of me with a spoon ... so here is a picture of me with 3 spoons.

 We also had some chicken drumsticks and mashed potatoes with gravy.

Bangkok, Day 16-18

Jan 6th-8th. On the 6th, I finally got some sleep before working for the day. I continue to be overwhelmed and disappointed by employer, my peers, and my company in general.

My weekend plans were cancelled as my team was asked to be available all weekend for a preplanned work activity that we were not included on until right before the weekend. This is an ongoing and consistent situation at my job with previous activities at my employer and it makes me ashamed of the IT group for this and so many other reasons. It also upsets me that lack of work life balance that is proclaimed is a clearly not represented in reality as well as the consistent claim that we are valued and appreciated by the company which is not supported by our treatment as human beings. 

I will most likely be spending the time alone as I will not be joining AEW on our previous plans. She did come home during her work event and work party to have dinner with me. She was dressed up as some famous school teacher on TV here in Thailand. When she got home she realized her tire was low so we walked to get food. When we came back home the tire was just about flat ... I can only assume this is going to be fun to try to get fixed. There was a nail in the tire and we had to eat close to the house. I look forward to many more weekend situations similar to this one while I am here in Thailand.

We found a "farm to table" type Cafe close to the house called "Little Loft -Cafe and Farm." They have hydroponic veggies, fish, koi, chicken, ducks, rabbits, baby pigs, and you can buy food to feed all of the animals. The piglets get little bottles of milk.

Bangkok, Day 15

It's Jan 5th. I finally got some sleep this morning. I had to wake up twice to let maintenance work on the leaky AC unit, but fell asleep immediately after letting them in the appartment. Now I am up and ready for another day of work. I am trying out Grab, a delivery service like GrubHub and UberEATS over here. Since I'm alone today I figured I'd have another American style meal and I ordered a couple sandwiches, wagyu burger, a mos burger and a fish burger, with a side of fries and shrimp.

Bangkok, Day 14

It's Jan 4th. I waited all morning for the building management to come fix the AC, as it is leaking water all over the kitchen counter. They were supposed to come at 9am but never called or showed up. So at 2pm I gave up on sleep and went to 7/11 for food. I got two tiny cheese pizzas, yogurt, a mocha frappe, and a couple other things. When I got back to the appartment, the power went out so I had to eat in the dark. As soon as I was done eating the power came back on. 

About 2 hours after I started my work day, 7pm Thailand time, AEW came home and surprised me with tacos for dinner. I feel so spoiled and so loved. Oh and the spicy sauce for the tacos was too hot for her.

She said it's good to have a man in the house to help carry all the gifts from her company that she needs to deliver to her customers this month.

Bangkok, Day 13

It's Jan 3rd. I spent the day resting and I think my digestive system has gone back to normal, well just about normal. I just ate some jello, a banana, yogurt, water and Red Bull for a late lunch. So far it is sitting well in my tummy.

Still feeling good, so for a late dinner in having an American dinner. Aussie (how's that American?) Beef tenderloin steak with potato wedges and mashed potatoes, followed up by strawberry pie and New York cheesecake.

Now sadly, at 7pm local time, it is time to start working. Back to the grind. My vacation is officially over.

Bangkok, Day 12

It's Jan 2nd. I didn't take any pictures today during the day but took some this evening. 

My digestive system is still recovering from whatever I ate that made my insides disagreeable. 

I started the morning making sure I could connect to work. Apparently while I was on vacation there was a security issue, it was not stated but clearly is what happened, and my account was locked out and required changing. I eventually was able to sign in and access my computer and VPN from Thailand. 

Later I went to have a Thai oil massage for 2 hours. It was a refreshing experience and very professional.

I slept in the afternoon and visited the shipping yard again. They had fish soup, steamed morning glory salad, spicy papaya salad, and some other freshly cooked foods.

Thailand, Day 11 evening

It's Jan 1st. My flight arrived in Bangkok at 7 pm. AEW arrived back to the apartment at midnight. I hopped off the HPR New Years live podcast stream, we eat some rice soup, and we went to bed.

Thailand, Day 11 airport

AEW dropped me off at the airport in Khon Kean. It was supposed to board at 4:35 pm and depart at 5:20 PM. It is after 5:20 PM and still nothing. The opposite of what happened when we tried to fly to Khon Kean from Bangkok. At this rate AEW may beat me back to Bangkok driving.

Flight status 

Finally boarding at 5:50 pm. 

 

 We arrived at the Bangkok airport and left the plane at 7:00 pm.
